ROBERT OSBORN has been photographing for nearly half a century.
In Southern California in the early 1970s he was involved in the origination of the sport of BMX. Mix into this period a passion to photograph and a talent for writing and you have the primary elements leading to his creation of BMX Action magazinein 1976 and Freestylin' magazine in 1984. His photography and writing during these years had a profound influence on an entire generation of young men and women around the world; set the stage for the bicycle-oriented action sports of today; and contributed to the eventual inclusion of BMX racing and BMX freestyle into the International Olympic Games.
Four years ago he began photographing Indians of the Northern Plains. In 2017 he was invited to photograph the street people of the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in Northeastern Montana. Both projects are ongoing and will be published as art books when completed. In 2018 he was adopted into the Nakota Assiniboine Tribe of Montana’s Northern Plains.
