Friday, February 16th:  PAINTING DEMONSTRATION with Artist, George Hill, from 4 pm to 6 pm.

George Hill’s second solo exhibition, CANIS LUPUS, takes off where his first show SYMBIOSIS left off, further examining the ever-increasing interface of modernity and wilderness. This time, the emphasis is on CANIS LUPUS, Latin for wolves. The series, comprised of seven large scale wolf paintings, is designed to give the viewer the sensation of standing in the middle of a wolf pack. Each painting is meticulously structured in a way that feels almost sculptural. Layer upon layer of fine brush work models each wolf until it feels like it is ready to step out of the canvas and occupy the same space as the viewer. They are living and breathing. Hill hopes this will emote something deep and visceral within the viewer as well as a strong sense of reverence for the subject. As the intersection of human development and wild spaces becomes more and more pertinent, Hill hopes CANIS LUPUS will remind us of our more primitive selves. That in this modern fast-paced era, we all benefit from a proximity and connection to the wild, to our more primitive selves. And that we need to care for and be stewards of those spaces and the creatures that reside within them. Step into the Wild. Step into CANIS LUPUS.
